Ele se adreseaz\u0103 \u0219i cercului mai larg al cititorilor interesa\u021bi de istoria evreiasc\u0103 \u0219i de mozaism, f\u0103r\u0103 a suferi de didacticism. Scopul c\u0103r\u021bii nu a fost s\u0103 ofere o istorie complet\u0103 a misticii iudaice, ci o analiz\u0103 a celor mai importante etape ale acesteia, printre care mistica <em>Merkaba<\/em>, hasidismul german, apari\u021bia Cabalei, <em>Zoharul<\/em>, \u0219coala lui Isaac Luria, sabatianismul, hasidismul polonez \u0219i cel ucrainean. Accentul cade pe interpretarea g\u00e2ndirii mistice, mai mult dec\u00e2t pe leg\u0103turile istorice dintre diferitele sisteme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen prefa\u021ba sa din 1941, autorul scria: \u201e\u00cen tezele ei majore, aceast\u0103 carte pune sub semnul \u00eentreb\u0103rii numeroase idei aproape unanim acceptate de evrei \u0219i neevrei, privind istoria evreiasc\u0103 \u0219i mozaismul. Este recunoscut ca fondatorul studiului academic al Cabalei.
